What is the Society of Presidential Descendants?

The Society of Presidential Descendants is a group of individuals with a direct lineage to one or more of the forty-six United States Presidents. The Society provides an opportunity for presidential descendants to share a comradery amongst each other and to promote educational opportunities.

Who leads the Society of Presidential Descendants?

The Society of Presidential Descendants is led by a Board of Trustees. The current officers are: Tweed Roosevelt, President; Massee McKinley, Vice President and Chief of Staff; Lynda Johnson Robb, Vice President; Clifton Truman Daniel, Vice President.

Can anyone become a member?

In order to be eligible to join the Society, you must be a direct descendant of a President of the United States, or become a friend/student friend of The Society of Presidential Descendants. The Board of Trustees must approve the application of admission.

Membership Levels:

  • Presidential Descendant
    A direct descendant, or ancestor, of a United States president. A U.S. president would be the parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, etc. of a descendant.
  • Collateral Descendant
    Related by bloodline, lineage of parents (mother and father), but not a direct ancestor to one of the presidents of the United States. The individual would be the cousin, niece, nephew, or sibling of a U.S. president.
  • Friend / Student
    Individuals interested in being associated with the Society of Presidential Descendants, but are not directly related to a president. This is an opportunity to be involved in an organization devoted to preserving the legacy of former presidents, commemorating presidential leadership, participating in a biennial weekend of events, and in alternating years awarding a book prize on presidential leadership or the presidency.

How can I become a member of the Society of Presidential Descendants?

If you are a direct descendant of a President of the United States, you are encouraged to fill out a membership application form here. If you are a Collateral Descendant of a President of the United States, please fill out the Collateral Descendants form here.

How can I get involved if I am not a Presidential Descendant?

Certain events will be open to the public. Presidential Descendants and non-descendants alike are invited to attend these events. If you would like to get involved immediately, please fill out the Friend Membership form here.
