Arnold Cogswell, Jr

Arnold Cogswell, Jr. is the Great Great Great Nephew of Chester Alan Arthur, the 21st President of the United States. Born and raised in Albany, New York, Cogswell received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Williams College. He also has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.

Cogswell started his work career as an historic archeologist for the National Trust of Historic Preservation. He later worked in administrative roles at the Science Museum of Connecticut, the Newport Art Museum, and the Hickory Museum of Art. Cogswell ended his work career as a middle school Social Studies teacher where he tried to instill a lifelong love of history in his students.

He is a supporter of the Albany Rural Cemetery where Arthur is buried as well as the Albany Institute of History and Art. Arnold is married to his wife Cheryl whom he met at the University of South Carolina. They have two children, Nathan and Hannah who work in climate policy and education respectively. He and Cheryl recently retired to Williamsburg, Virginia.
